Get ready to be illuminated! IKEA is giving its beloved 'donut lamp' a brilliant makeover, and it's set to become a smart home staple. Announced at CES 2026, the new Varmblixt lamp isn't just a light fixture; it's an experience.
Created in collaboration with the talented Dutch artist and designer Sabine Marcelis, the revamped Varmblixt boasts color-changing and light-dimming capabilities, all controllable remotely. Imagine your space gently transitioning through a spectrum of custom hues. Available as both a wall light and a table lamp, the IKEA Varmblixt will be available from April 2026 for only $99.
Mmm... Donuts of Light!
The magic begins when you switch it on. The donut lamp cycles through 12 preset colors, subtly shifting in tone. But the real fun starts when you pair it with the IKEA Home Smart app. Suddenly, you have over 40 shades at your fingertips, along with the ability to adjust the light intensity and dimming.
Sabine Marcelis herself emphasizes the unique feature: "What makes this lamp unique is that switching between colors is not a sudden change, but a very smooth journey through all the hues to get to the next color. The light slowly moves through color to in turn transform the color of a space.”
But wait, there's more!
As part of this exciting collaboration, IKEA is also releasing a smart version of its $149 Varmblixt pendant light. This pendant will also offer a sensitive transition between shades of light, with a focus on white light. Like its donut sibling, it can be controlled with the included remote or integrated into your smart home setup.
And the best part? The entire line is built on the Matter standard, ensuring seamless integration with a wide range of smart home systems.
A Smart Home Revolution?
This release signals a wider move into the smart home market, following IKEA's announcement of 21 new smart home gadgets back in November.
And this is the part most people miss...
The original article also mentioned other news. IKEA is also selling a tiny new USB-C charger for just $4.
