He needed funds for a house deposit in Cape Town, but his father kept stalling. “The more I asked, the more the money wasn’t coming,” Habana recalled. It wasn’t until 2010, after discovering discrepancies in sponsorship deals, that the full extent of the fraud became clear. A contract with Canterbury revealed his father had been pocketing funds meant for him.
